The sad beauty of a ghost town

It’s not often you get to see a ghost town, or maybe we simply close our eyes from the battles of others. The small town of Doel in Belgium reached headlines few years back when its citizens resisted the plan to build a harbor replacing their homes. After a confusing drive in a wide construction area and by the nuclear power plants, we found the abandoned town, however not quite as empty as expected. Doel has reached the interest of photographers and visitors due to the amazing art work appearing on the walls of the houses. A sunny day was contradicting the mood of the sad town, broken glass and numerous teddy bears sitting on the windows and placed on a graveyard and light poles. Looking at the walls you could feel that something beautiful had come out of the sadness (or because of it), but as obeying the rules of the world, it also will disappear and one day be forgotten.
